"Exploring the Vital Professional Activities of CEPI in the Nursing Field"

The fundamental rule is that any nursing activity that is not prohibited is considered permissible. When assigning professional duties, it is crucial to consider the primary goal of CEPI practice, which is to enhance their nursing practice learning and solidify their knowledge in preparation for the professional exam.

You can perform the same professional activities as a nurse , with the exception of the following activities*

  1. Activities performed with a parturient (ie from the onset of labor until delivery);

  2. Activities carried out with a client whose state of health is in a critical phase or who requires frequent adjustments;

  3. Activities carried out in community health;

  4. Initiate diagnostic and therapeutic measures, according to a prescription;

  5. Initiate diagnostic measures for screening purposes as part of an activity resulting from the application of the Public Health Act (CQLR, chapter S-2.2);

  6. Determine the treatment plan related to wounds and alterations of the skin and integuments;

  7. Vaccination as part of an activity resulting from the application of the Public Health Act (CQLR, chapter S-2.2). Applicants may, however, assist in (not perform) vaccination as part of an activity arising from the application of the Public Health Act , regardless of their level of training;

  8. Decide on the use of restraint measures;

  9. Decide on the use of isolation measures within the framework of the application of the Act respecting health services and social services (CQLR, chapter S-4.2) and the Act respecting health services and social services for Cree Native people (CQLR, chapter S-5);

  10. Evaluate a child who is not yet eligible for preschool education and who shows signs of developmental delay, in order to determine rehabilitation and adaptation services that meet his needs;

  11. Adjust the therapeutic nursing plan for all the above activities.

* However, CEPIs holding a university degree may carry out the activities described in points 2, 3 and 10.

The fundamental rule is that any nursing activity that is not prohibited is considered permissible. When assigning professional duties, it is crucial to consider the primary goal of CEPI practice, which is to enhance their nursing practice learning and solidify their knowledge in preparation for the professional exam.
